Here we go.

I guess I should of waited.
Why do I have to?
Because society says so.
I know what I want

do I?

90 day rule out the door.

Energy from the very beginning, just didn't know which kind.
Light hearted conversations that were always meant to be more, but how much more? Because of our actions, am I even allowed to continue on with that line of questioning? Can anything inkling of energy be saved and cultivated? Reckless actions got me wondering what were your intentions from the start; mine as well. Your silence is all that was needed to confirm what it was you wanted. You asked me what I wanted, would I scare you away if I said, that it was you? How can I be sure if what I want is you? Maybe, I don’t want you—maybe I want what it is you have to offer.

Penetration was never necessary, intimacy was what I wanted…but you gave unselfishly something more. You made me think clearly in a confused hour. Made me feel beautiful and safe, in what could've been an ugly, dangerous moment. Held me. That alone harnessed some of that energy you spoke of. I guess I'm just trying to say that if it all stopped here, I could accept that. I could accept the fact that this isn't the type of energy you wanted. You asked the ancestors and now I will.  After all I've said, I'd be a lie if I said I didn’t want one more kiss, one more hug, one more look—a little bit more of that energy.

Excuse me, Do you have any race cards I can borrow?

In the article Playing the race card when frame of reference is everything by Devorah Major, what I think she saying is; the race card that people of color are accused of using is non-existent and people who have not experienced racism in any form should trust that people who experience it daily know the difference between that and false blame.

Major starts the article off humorous by naming the different sets of card decks she owns, making it clear that the “race card” is no where in sight. Further along in the article she speaks of her personal definition of the “race card” saying, “it is a card that is dealt when a person of color infers, implies or clearly states that race is a dynamic in a given situation.” She continues on saying that usually a person that has never experienced racism and knows nothing of the tribulations says at best that the man or woman using the “race card” is overly sensitive and using their color as an excuse.

When I think of this definition it reminds me of the massive propaganda surrounding Hurricane Katrina storm and the events that happened after. The U.S government didn’t send in water, basic medical care or food until eight days after the storm hit. When the government finally showed up the U.S citizens in New Orleans were treated like “refugees” as they were so commonly called in the mainstream media. The arguments that were made, were that the way the government’s response had nothing to do with race, and the officials wanted to make sure that the plan of executing assistance was the right one. Major would argue that this is another instance of people saying that people of color are playing the “race card”, I’m sure you would agree Hurricane Katrina was no game.

In the final paragraphs of the article Major speaks of the Yupik Eskimo people who have a disputed 401 names for snow. The Yup’ik people have so many definitions for snow because they are very well versed in the history and variations of the substance. The author makes this reference to say, the Yup’ik people are very knowledgeable about snow because they experience it everyday all day and have had time to experience all kinds of snow-their the experts. So why wouldn’t we trust that they know what their talking about when it comes to snow? Should we not listen to them when they are the authorities on this topic? Similar heed should be taken when it comes to people of color and racism. People of color have lived in mist of racism for years, by know they know it when they see it.

So to conclude, the “race card” is not a 52 deck of cards that people of color pull out when they feel like having a good time. This is a term that has been coined by people who know nothing about the daily perils of non-Europeans in America. Don’t chalk up the experiences of a whole people to overzealousness.

Reprise of yearly ending reflection and to do list

So, the year is coming to a close. And I have plenty to be thankful for and tons to reflect on. In the mist of the thanking and reflecting I need to continue to evolve and get better, stronger, faster, smarter, kinder, wiser, more constant, more forgiving and more loving. As I think back on 2010 I have to pat myself on the back, I can honestly say that I am becoming a better woman. The transition hasn’t been the smoothest but this is the work that is required to be who desire to be.

As I grow into this woman, that I claim I want to be, I wonder am I loosing what makes Shontrice, Shontrice? This has been by far the most isolating year thus far. My friends and loyalty have been tested like no other. Being an adult means having to make difficult decisions and living with them. The older I get the more I want to love unconditionally, but then I remember that every living has a silent and or spoken contract with each other.

I love the trees on the condition that they supply me with air. I respect all living things on the condition that they continue to regulate life. I love music under the condition that it continues to inspire me. Sex, oh how I love thee, as long as I have an orgasm every time we encounter. Is this selfish or just the human sprit? Even my mother, there are certain things that she and I must do to fulfill our silently made contracts made on the day of my birth. I hope I make her proud.

Moreover, I hope I make the ancestors proud. I hope I continue to embrace the AFRICAN in African American. I will dedicate my life to loving and respecting the African and the American (Black) legacy that the elders have left for me. Leaving 2010 entering 2011 my religion will be love, and I will practice that doctrine intently. So let’s go Shontrice, Forward-never looking back only to reflect, cause you can’t change SHIT.

You make WRONG...So RIGHT!

I've been inspired. Now, don't get me wrong Ochocinco the football player is repulsive and ignorant, I flat out don't like him (mainly him changing his name, legally, to a fucking number). Moreover, he said something on the VH1 show "Basketball Wives", (which is equally repulsive and ignorant) that struck a cord with me. He was in a debate with one of the "wives" and said, "You could never out dress me, cause I make wrong right".

Now, we all know of "trendsetters", "avant garde" folks and innovators-So to pay my homage to people who have influenced me to think outside the box, this one's for you.
